White hair grows faster than normal hair. White hair is also coarser and drier than normal hair. Even though graying of hair is a natural process associated with ageing, pre-mature graying can be caused by various controllable reasons.
Faulty diet is one reason for pre-mature graying of hair. Lack of vitamins, iodine, iron and copper can lead to graying of hair. Mental stress and anxiety is another reason that can cause grey hairs. Smoking, chronic illnesses and over usage of certain cosmetics and chemicals can also result in pre-mature graying of hair.

Gooseberry paste is a popular remedy for grey hair and hair fall. Regular application of gooseberry paste on the scalp can prevent and control hair fall and hair graying. Massaging hair with coconut oil and lemon can bring long term results when done regularly. Add some salt into a cup of black tea and rub this onto your scalp and leave it there for an hour before bath. Applying onion paste on the scalp before shower can also help. Fenugreek seed paste is a stimulant of healthy hair. Use it at least once a week for better results.

Neem oil prevents the graying of hair and is also used in treating dandruff and hair lice. Guava leaves grinded into a paste and applied regularly onto the scalp can relieve hair graying. It is healthy to boil neem leaves in water and use that water to wash your head. The butter made from cow’s milk has the properties to prevent grey hair. It is widely believed that massaging castor oil onto your scalp will prevent grey hairs. Almond oil is also known to make your hair soft and smooth and also prevent grey hair.

Applying a beaten egg mixed with a little water onto the scalp and leaving it till its dry and washing off is known to prevent grey hair. Using natural shampoos, like hibiscus, regularly, can prevent pre-mature graying. Just crush hibiscus leaves and flowers into a portion of water, you will get a soapy liquid, which can be used as a natural shampoo to clean your hair and scalp and also to prevent graying and hair fall. Curry leaves is another natural herb that work wonders on your hair. Eat lots of it. Add a few curry leaves to some coconut oil and warm it up before applying on scalp before bath.

Diet plays an important role in hair matters. Eat an iron rich diet and include more minerals, vitamin A and B in your diet. Copper deficiency can also lead to graying of hair, so have a check on your copper in take, or try a supplement. Iodine is another important mineral that influences the hair color. Eat bananas, fish and carrots to improve your iodine intake and use iodized salt. Ginger mixed with honey is a good tonic for hair. Consuming yogurt with yeast is known to be a good remedy for grey hair.
Stop smoking. As the statutory warning says, it is harmful to all parts of your body and so to your hair. Anxiety and stress should be controlled by developing a positive attitude towards life. Stress can also lead to lack of sleep which again is detrimental to the health of your hair. Exercise can be relaxing to your body and mind and hence start and exercise regimen. It can also improve blood circulation which promotes healthy hair. As always, a healthy life style is the key to healthy and beautiful skin and hair.
