Dandruff is the white dry flaky scalp that at times fall on your shoulders, eyes and face. It causes itchiness and irritation to one’s scalp. Dandruff is considered to be infectious and can spread by the use of common towels; hair brushes etc. dandruff can be dry or waxy. It can be caused due to malnutrition, deficiency of zinc, fungus or yeast infections and a high usage of alkaline soaps or shampoos.
A hot steam bath is highly beneficial for dandruff. Massage in warm oil on to the scalp and then cover the head up with a warm towel or towel soaked in hot water. There are also a wide variety of herbal remedies available for the treatment of dandruff. Soak lemon peels in coconut oil for a few days and apply that oil for dandruff free scalp. Applying lemon juice on the scalp before a bath can also cure dandruff, but you should not leave the lemon juice on your hair for long since it can cause graying of hair. Mix 2 tablespoons of vinegar with some water and apply it on the scalp and leave it over night to be washed off in the morning. Aloe Vera gel can be applied on the scalp and left for a while before bath.
Dandruff Removal Tips
A mix of beetroot, ginger and vinegar is also beneficial to treat dandruff with. Diluted apple juice can also be used in the treatment of dandruff. Another mix that can help relieve dandruff problem is olive oil and almond oil. It may cause a little irritation on the scalp but it is known to be highly effective. Fenugreek seeds soaked over night and made a paste can be applied on hair for dandruff free smooth and silky hair. Application of henna is also effective in treating dandruff and also promotes hair growth. Beat an egg and apply it all over the scalp and shampoo off when dry. If done once a week, this can keep dandruff away. A mixture of peanut oil and lemon juice is also good to relieve dandruff. Lemon juice and garlic mixture is good in treating dandruff. Wash your hair twice a week with a mixture of green gram powder and curd to keep dandruff away.
Flaxseed oil, primrose oil and salmon oil are great for hair and also to control dandruff. Use them regularly for wonderful tresses free of dandruff. Kelp heals the scalp and promotes hair growth. Regular intake of vitamin B complex can promote the essential nutrients for your skin and hair. Selenium is an anti-oxidant that prevents the hair from drying resulting in flaky scalp. Vitamin E improves the circulation of blood and does wonders on your scalp. Neem leaves soaked in water can be used to rinse the hair; it is a good disinfectant.
Always keep your hair, head and scalp clean to avoid accumulation of dead cells. Hair should be brushed daily to improve blood circulation and also remove any dry flakes on the scalp. Diet also plays a very important role in keeping dandruff away. Avoid oily and fried food and add lots of fresh vegetables and fruits, especially more green leafy vegetables in your diet. Drink at least 7 glasses of water a day. Sufficient sleep is also essential for healthy hair and scalp.
Nettle root, Sage and Rosemary can be used as a herbal treatment for dandruff. Mix 15g nettle root, 15g fresh sage leaves and 25g fresh rosemary leaves. Add 5 drops of tea tree oil, 25g baby shampoo, 150ml methylated alcohol and 425ml water to the herbal mixture. Allow the mixture to infuse for two weeks (shake every day). After two weeks, strain and use as shampoo two or three times a week.
